It’s funny the way things happen. In 2021, I was offered my first-ever multi-book contract. Those books would become They Drown Our Daughters (2022), Graveyard of Lost Children (2023) and Through the Midnight Door (2024). The last three years have been a (glorious) storm of promo, promo, writing, promo, editing, touring, promo, writing, (dying), promo, writing, promo (did anyone else read that to the tune of The L Word theme song?)
Being an author became my entire identity. I immersed myself in the work and the community and the readers and it felt like being swept along in this fast-moving river… until I hit a rock. And then another.
I looked up, ink-stained and bleary-eyed, to realize I’d forgotten that life existed outside of the work.
So here I am, for me as much as for you, to reintroduce myself.
Hi. My name is Katrina, but you can call me Kat. I’m a writer, but I do (and love) other stuff, too.

I love riding with my wife on her motorcycle. Being a backpack is easy, you just hold on and giggle like mad when you go fast. It was inevitable that one day I would want to graduate from backpack to driver, though. My wife (bless her) is teaching me on her brand new Triumph. I’m only allowed to go in straight lines and no more than 20mph (for now), but I’m having a blast. I forgot how much fun learning something new can be.

I moved to Minnesota 12 years ago and immediately drank the kool-aid. There’s just something about grown men beating the every-loving snot out of each other while trying to stay upright on ice skates that just fills me with joy. (And women! The start of the PWHL meant MOAR hockey! MOAR ladies!)
Do I think the MN Wild will win a Stanley Cup this year? No. Do I think the MN Frost will take home a second Walter Trophy? You bet your ass. This is the State of (Womens’) Hockey, muther-effers.

The story of Peter Pan, Neverland, and the lost boys has always plucked at my heartstrings. I have a small (but fabulous!) collection of various editions of the book, from Little Golden Books to early 1900s editions of Peter and Wendy—if I’m at a thrift or antique shop, you can bet you’ll find me poking around for something new to add.
I’m almost 40 now, but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming about some day finding my way to Neverland, to battle pirates, swim with mermaids, and play tricks with the fairies.
There. Now you and I both know me a little better. Better settle in and get comfy, because we’re going to be together forever. <3
